How to Give
Giving to the Charitable Fund Drive is simple and easy. The hardest part is figuring out which of the hundreds of nonprofits in the CFD are most important to you. Consider the following scenarios:
- I have organizations in mind that I'd like to support - how do I find their CFD numbers?
- I want to support organizations that are working in a particular region of the state - what are my choices?
- I have particular issues that I like to support - how do I find organizations addressing these issues?
- I've never given before and I'm not sure where to begin.
- I want to give a general gift to the campaign.
Filling out the pledge form:
- Download a copy of the pledge form or get one from your site Coordinator.
- Fill in your name, address, and other pertinent information.
- Identify the organizations you'd like to support and put their CFD code #'s in the appropriate section of the pledge form and indicate your annual gift to each.
- Decide how you want to make your gift: Cash, Check, Payroll Deduction, Visa, or Mastercard. If you write a check, make it payable to “Charitable Fund Drive”.
- Sign the form if you've making a payroll gift.
- If you've given a gift of $500 or more you are eligible to receive a Governor's Cup. Each year we do a different cup with the Governor's signature. If you'd prefer to not receive one - please check the box.
- Due to recent IRS changes, we will send an acknowledgement for every gift through the CFD.
- If you'd like your gift to remain anonymous to the recipient charities, please check the box under the address line.
- Give your completed pledge form to your office’s site Coordinator.
- If you're not certain who your Coordinator is check the current listing or call the campaign management organization at 503-528-2783.
I have a list of organizations in mind that I'd like to support - how do I find their CFD numbers?
Use the search feature to the left and search by name. Even a partial name of an organization will produce a list of every organization that includes that word in its name. After the name of each organization you'll find the name of the federation it is associated with.
Once you find the organization you're interested in, click on it and it will take you to a page that will provide the CFD number, which you'll need for the pledge form, as well as additional information on the organization (description, address, phone number and website).
A search by region or county will help you narrow the list of choices to organizations working in that area. Don't forget many organizations work statewide. Seach by region or county and choose "statewide" to find these groups.
The local United Ways and United Funds focus on particular geographic areas. A search by federation will allow you to identify a list of organizations supported by the selected federation.
Many groups provide resources and services around the state, so a search by region "Statewide" will give you a list of these groups.
The first place to begin is a review of the fund and federation descriptions. Most focus on a set of organizations that share common features including issue area, type of organization, or geographic area.
Using the Type search can help you identify organizations that are addressing a particular issue area such as: animal related, disease, environment, or human services.
I've never given before and I'm not sure where to begin.
We've put together a short Giving Tool. It is a series of six questions that will help you identify 'what you care about' in terms of values and populations served by the nonprofit community and how to think about what you'd like to achieve through your personal philanthropy. It is an introduction to developing a personal giving plan. Check it out.
I want to give a general gift to the campaign.
Use the code number 5000 for general gifts. These gifts will be split between the local United Way/Fund in your area and the statewide funds and federations.
